Volunteerism is a way for individuals and groups to make a specific contribution by generating well-being for people and their communities. We’ve been inspired by the number of people who have stepped forward to volunteer for the GWL Skatepark project during our early fundraising efforts.

Today we’d like to highlight and thank in particular a special young volunteer whose singular efforts not only raised over $200 for the skatepark but also served to remind us that the youth of Greenwood Lake want this skatepark built … maybe even more than we do!

During the Greenwood Lake Winter Classic Hockey Tournament on Sat., Feb. 3 at the Thomas P. Morahan Waterfront Park, young Jessica Bell (10 years old!) decided to stage her own fundraiser for the GWL Skatepark in Memory of Dale Hirrel by selling a much-needed commodity to anyone enjoying a day on the ice – hand warmers. Jessica’s mom Kerry Bell said “she 100% came up with this idea on her own. She inspires me daily.”

Jessica, you inspire us too, and thank you for your big idea and your big effort! It’s kids like you who ensure this project will be a great success.
